Attack –

Verb

To quickly accelerate while riding in a pack, or in smaller numbers, with a goal to create a gap between yourself and other riders.

I’ll admit, when I came on board to work with Filament, I didn’t know a thing about professional cycling. But one of the perks of working along a professional cyclist and the best bike company in the world (Trek), is you learn the terminology…like “Attack”.

This weekend Kelly and I are heading to California to capture some awesome moments during the ‘Amgen Tour of California’. I feel as though I will appreciate it so much more than I would have just months ago.

Salt and Storms

We just wrapped our first shoot in the Bonneville Salt Flats. Luckily we scheduled a test day to figure out how we were going to capture our shots. We ended up shooting footage that would make the final project. This would ultimately be a very good decision as we lost the last one and a half days shooting due to 50mph winds and rain storms. Thanks to a great crew who had to keep the lenses clean, their morale up, and the footage looking great!

Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.

Trek has been spending some serious time and money to ensure their athletes are at an advantage when competing at the highest level. One part of the process is spending time in the wind tunnel.

Television debut for Music Voyager

There has been a buzz in the air this last week.

About one year ago – almost to the day – a group of us set out to make a TV show. Farook (producer), Jacob (host), Rod (cinematographer), and myself traveled to India to shoot a show about music from around the world. A year and several revisions later, Music Voyager has hit the screen on PBS and NatGeo. As of now, we’ve shot a full season, and more. However, it was the planting of those initial seeds that helped shape and define what the show is today.

Congrats Farook, Jacob, Rod, Bryan and everyone involved on a warm reception to the screen in many homes around the world.

Fresh off of our recent adventures to Los Angeles, Louisiana, Los Angeles, and Louisiana, I’m getting right into post production on the projects we were shooting. (Yes – we went to both places twice. In a row)

Season 2 of Music Voyager is under way and it is looking great. Although we’re still finishing up the Grammy episodes, I’ve been able to peek into the footage for episodes 201-203 and I think the team will be very pleased when the rough cuts start rolling out. Another project that’s starting to take some shape is the Trek // K Swiss team video series. We shot the team camp, which took place North of LA in Agoura Hills, and we were able to have some fun.

Post Game 7 Celebration

You can imagine all of the footwear the athletes are getting being sponsored by a shoe company and all. At the hotel, a random elevator companion to the team kept his head down as the portable room moved up 3 floors. Upon walking out, he looked up and said, with a smirk, ‘Matching shoes. Cute.’ and then walked away. Turns out Rainn Wilson (who most may know from his character, Dwight Shrute, in The Office) is quite perceptive.

A peaceful feeling

Been spending a portion of the week backing up (2tb) hard drives. Backing up just one drive usually takes an entire night, and when working on a television show, there are a lot of drives to back up (about 1 per episode). I enjoy the process, mostly because of the peace of mind that comes from it…it’s one less thing to worry about.

Louisiana Part 2

I reckon we are going to Louisiana again! During the last week of ‘09, we had the opportunity to shoot in Louisiana with Cedric Watson, Buckwheat Zydeco, and others. Well…we are heading back for two weeks, this time for a three episode shoot for Music Voyager. Feel blessed to shoot in such an incredible state, looking forward to it.

(Yes…the picture is Disneyland, because New Orleans Square is awesome!)
